home aims of the society history of military music imms events news diary of events archived uk branch journals contacts merchandise gallery join us links please feel free to make comments, or if you are in a position to provide any input to this site, please contact the webmaster. webmaster is ron rose to email me click here this site was last updated on 28th december 2018 international military music society united kingdom (founder) branch supporting and encouraging the appreciation of military music the international military music society is for those who enjoy military band music and music- making in all its forms. it offers members the opportunity to share their interest and enjoyment with fellow enthusiasts and also to receive regular news about military music and military bands. the united kingdom branch of the society holds quarterly meetings at the royal military school of music, kneller hall, twickenham – the home of music in the british army – and enjoys presentations from guest speakers talking about all genres of military music and music- making. recent speakers have included the bbc's huw edwards talking about commentating on the festival of remembrance and the queen's birthday parades, lieutenant- colonel steven barnwell, recently retired as senior director of music, household division and wo1 'billy' mott obe, then garrison sergeant major london district. the branch also arranges private visits for its members to bands at their home bases; recent visits have been to the royal air force regiment at northolt, the royal artillery at tidworth and to the royal marines school of music at portsmouth. m embers also receive the branch's quarterly journal , a full- colour illustrated magazine which features news and views about bands, concert reports, a diary of the bands' public appearances and other articles of current and historic interest. members also receive three issues each year of band international, sent to all members worldwide. the society periodically holds international gatherings when members from as far afield as canada, the gulf states, japan, new zealand, the united states and europe meet to enjoy a programme of events designed by the host country. the uk branch held a gathering in 2014 and the usa branch in 2015. last year at the swedish branch's gathering in stockholm, a highlight was witnessing behind- the- scenes preparations for the guard change at the royal palace. to make the most of your enjoyment of military music, download the membership application from the join us page of this website and become an imms member. you'd be welcome indeed!
